Day 1 , Friday - We drove to Cheyenne and went shopping at Sierra Trading Post. I
bought some really cute boots. After the shopping we continued onto Hot Springs, SD. It is a quiet little town at the south end of the Black Hills. We checked into the Red Rock River Resort. It was a neat hotel in an old sandstone building. We tested out the hot tub and sauna. It was awesome.Day 2, Saturday - We cruised around and checked out the Mammoth Museum, Crazy Horse, and drove by Mt. Rushmore. The Mammoth Museum was pretty sweet and I hadn't seen Crazy Horse in 15 years (I'm old). Seeing the transformation was pretty cool. we only drove by Mt. Rushmore since it was $10 to park your car and we'd both seen it before. However, I will note that I'm pretty sure the mountain has moved closer to the visitor's center. I was much more impressed this time than I was 15 years ago. I thought it was a ripoff because it was too far from the visitor's center (I was 15....).
Day 3, Sunday - We got massages. Need I say more. We were worthless for the remainder of the day. Literally we did nothing but sleep and watched baseball. That night we got in the hot tub. Again, nothing spectacular but yet, spectacular. Jim did look stellar in the spa robe......

Day 4, Monday - We drove to Deadwood, SD. Along the way we went through Rapid City and we going to check the place out since it was one of their smaller stores but we couldn't find the fu&%#$ place! Go figure. Anyway, no loss there. We also swung by Sturgis. A dreary little town that must have it's population multiplied by 100 during bike week. After cruising through Sturgis we headed to our destination to stay at a great old hotel called the Bullock. We checked into the Roosevelt Suite and cruised the town during the day and got drunk by the night. It was AWESOME! We went to a restaurant/sports bar/casino called Mustang Sally's where we proceeded to drink our respective weights in alcohol while playing pool and Big Game Hunter video games. I also did the "smashing hammer to see how strong you are" game where the bartender said I was "pretty salty for a little girl" - really I only lost to Jim by 35 "points". Anyway, I digress, I am apparently very competitive. I knew I was, but when I'm drunk I'm apparently very competitive. What can I say, I can also sing while I'm drunk, and I sound gooooooood. After we were done drinking and eating hot dogs we went to bed - Jim went to bed - while I listed to him snore through his hiccups. seriously, how do you pass out with the hiccups??
Day 5, Tuesday - We slept in, watched TV, and did a whole lot of nothing, until...... the St. Patrick's Day parade! Who knew a little town could party like that?! Unfortunately we missed the Dancing Nuns show but their float was pretty good... Again, we drank (did not get drunk) and played a couple of games of pool and more Big Game Hunter (I couldn't resist, although I'm apparently a pretty damn good shot when I'm drunk).
Day 6, Wednesday - Damn this day..... I woke up with a cold which made for a horrible drive back. Which is all we did - Nebraska not so great........ Nothing to report.
All-in-all we had a great trip. It was relaxing and at just the right time!
Glad to have you home. Sounds like you had a great time. We have visited Mt Rushmore and Deadwood several times. It is interesting how things change over time.
ReplyDeleteFun trip, but I completely agree about Nebraska!!!!! There is nothing there worth seeing, or doing, and the boredom from the drive makes one contemplate a brief cranial encounter with a blunt object!! I am honestly, how many FrEiKing corn fields can you look at before you go crazy!
